Senszio Safari Jacket: Review

It is the oddest of times to say the least, and we find ourselves between standing still and trying to motor on. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel in sight and we can slowly start turning our attentions to putting plans into motion for this spring/summer. Some of those plans include what to wear when we can get out and about. I caught up with Prashant from Senszio in London in early December to discuss working together on a custom made Safari Jacket in time for summer. We discussed fabrics, fit, style elements and generally what I was hoping for us to achieve. There was real focus on a colour which proved to have softer hues for a summer palette, and practicalities like inside pockets for my phone, wallet and keys.

Overall, I am delighted with the outcome. The intricate construction and craftsmanship is very much on show with this piece and a special mention must be given to the herringbone fabric which elevates this piece. We opted for a buttoned-closure for improved circulation and breathability in the warm weather. The finish on the collar is wide spread which I find flattering as it gives a relaxed roll on the collar and one which looks and wears naturally. There ought to also be a mention about the versatility of the piece. Although I styled it here with a t-shirt, it can also be worn with a piece of knitwear, or a shirt and tie. Perhaps there is also a look here with a brown/beige linen shirt underneath.

With the drawstring, a gentle silhouette is created to give the jacket some more shape through the waist. An inverted back pleat has been expertly constructed into the Safari Jacket, to aid ease of movement, and some room around the back. Given it is a piece mostly for spring/summer the Safari Jacket comes without shoulder pads, and is half-lined canvas for a casual drape. Key features of the made-to-measure Safari Jacket include:

  • four exterior patch pockets

    • button flapped patch pockets

    • darts in pocket exterior design

  • two interior pockets

  • adjustable inner drawstring

  • button down

  • single cuff

  • wide spread collar

  • inverted back pleat

Senszio’s offering can be infinite but in all the right ways. Based in Hong Kong, they travel the world, setting up trunk shows and meeting with their clients to discuss their style requirements. There is a nice balance between customisation and advice/guidance on fabrics and style elements. A comprehensive set of measurements are taken at the initial consultation, and pictures are also taken to gain a better understanding of your posture and how you carry yourself.

However, I do believe firmly in the wearability of a garment. Wearing the piece over the coming months, will give a better idea of how it wears, ages and drapes to your unique body shape. Perhaps an updated post on how the piece has aged and a focus on the wearability element will be appropriate. In the meantime, check out Senszio and get in touch with them on their website or on Instagram where they are active and respond very quickly regarding any enquiries. With tailored clothing it should be about an enjoyable experience as well as the final product. Senszio deliver on both with an attentive and curated experience to match a beautifully crafted final product.
